Hello There,
Thanks for writing in!
It seems that you are using an older version of Visual Composer(4.3.5) and the X theme (3.2.3). Older versions may have problems especially if you already have updated WordPress to version 4.x.x.
I would highly recommend that you create a staging site first. The staging site is very useful because you can test drive any X updates in the staging area, do the troubleshooting without disrupting your live site. Once everything is perfect, you can easily and flawlessly proceed the update in the live site. To know how to create a staging area, please check out these articles:

By the way, our latest versions are:
This latest release contains fixes for several issues so be sure to check out the changelog (http://theme.co/changelog/).
_After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches (if you are using WP Rocket, WP SuperCache or W3 Total Cache) when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.-
I also noticed that you are still using X Shortcodes 3.0.5. Please deactivate and delete X Shortcodes 3.0.5 plugin. Take note that X shortcodes 3.0.5 and its functionality has been consolidated into Cornerstone which you can install by going to X Validation > Extensions assuming that you already have updated to the latest version of X.
Please let us know how it goes.
We decided to roll back the website because it would be too much effort to upgrade the website to the new X version. If there is no other way of getting this to work without having to upgrade everything I will do.
Do you think by using cornerstone and deactivated x shortcodes it will fix this problem?
Thank you.
Hi Blake,
No, unfortunately, the Cornerstone is the builder which we recommend and replaces the old shortcode generator, but it does not have an effect on the Visual Composer which is a separate builder which once we have in our theme and now we only have it as a bundled plugin and we recommend to use the Cornerstone.
So basically, your theme is too old to be able to do a meaningful overhaul and also please consider that even the Visual Composer changes its code and your previously added pages will no longer be usable with the new version of the Visual Composer.
The best way I can think of is that you install a new version of the theme and recreate the pages using the Cornerstone or if you are more comfortable with the latest version of the Visual Composer.
It is very important to keep the theme and your website updated constantly. The reason for that is your situation here that there are too many changes during the course of time which makes it nearly impossible to update the content and the code without a great deal of hassle.
Thank you for your understanding.
