VIsual Composer Promo not working

We are unable to edit the Promos we set up using VC. When we click them we just get code and no way to replace the photo. If we add a new promo we get the correct screen. Any thoughts? We’d rather not have to redo all the promos on our site. Thanks.

Hi,

The login provided doesn’t seem to work. Please check again and let us know.

For the mean time, try to enable Legacy X Integration

Hope that helps

I tried that and it didn’t work. The password I sent should have only one ! at the end.

Thanks again for your help with this.

Hey Steve,

I tried logging in using the credentials you’ve posted but it’s now incorrect. Please check.

Are you having the same issue as in this video below?

Thanks.

The video you sent looks exactly like the issue. I’ve attached a screenshop.

I’ve tried turning off and on Legacy, along with flushing the cache.

As for the login, I just tried the credentials I sent you (one “!” at the end of the password) and they worked -not sure why it doesn’t for you.

I appreciate your help with this.

Hi Steve,

It seems you’ve added the promo shortcode to the text block of WPBakery Builder:

To change the image, you have to replace the image ID under image="6911" attribute.

Regards!

Thanks for the reply but I still don’t understand how to make VC work properly. There are a number of elements on the page - in addition to the Prommos - that don’t appear properly for editing. It’s as if VC isn’t working properly. I know with another site I just turned on Legacy and it fixed the problem - that isn’t working here. Any other thoughts?

Hey Steve,

I wonder if you’ve finished watching the video I posted. The solution was explained in there also. Switch to the default WordPress Text Editor and remove Visual Composer’s Text Block shortcode that are wrapping the X elements. I’d recommend that you review the video so you could see how to do that.

Thanks.

I’ve watched the video and the suggestions don’t seem to work although perhaps I’m not doing it right. Further, are you telling me I have to go through every single page of this site and look for this issue and then try to manually correct it? This issue is everywhere.

Perhaps you can show me how to fix this on one of the instances and I can try from there.

I have to tell you … I’ve enjoyed using X for years and am ready to create two new sites - this experience is making me wonder if it’s time to try a different theme.

Further, the video you provided is from before Gutenburg. Could that be causing an issue?

Hello Steve,

You can actually disable the Gutenberg editor in WPBakery Settings. By the way, it seems that you have added a promo shortcode and added it incorrectly. To understand how this shortcode works, please check this out instead:

Hope this helps.

I don’t understand why you guys aren’t addressing my issue. VC isn’t working properly throughout my site, not just on Promos but also text blocks. All of this worked fine until very recently and we haven’t made any changes in a long time. We’d really rather not have to rebuild all the elements in this site - I’m hoping you have a suggestion. And we did try disabling Gutenberg but that didn’t change anything. Thanks.

Hi Steve,

May I know how you fix it based on the provided video? A video recording will be helpful as well. That way, we can address what went wrong. I can’t just go ahead and edit it especially I’m not sure what’s already been added or changed since this issue.

Do you still have the backup of the original content? What I’m seeing is, the shortcode hierarchy is malformed. Probably due to editing or accidental deletion of shortcode pairs. If you can provide the original copy then I’ll test it on my end to see what’s going on instead of changing it directly from your site.

Thanks!

I never fixed anything. I never touched anything. A few days ago to make a couple minor updates I saw this issue. I guess I’m going to give up although I can’t imagine I’m the only person that started with you guys years ago with VC and now have problems.

Hello Steve,

I found out that your page were built with X shortcodes which has long been deprecated. You can either recode the promo or insert the new promo shortcode.

From this:

[promo image="6911" alt="Insurance accepted"]

We accept most major insurance plans, plus medicare, and will help simplify your paperwork.

[/promo]

To this:

[x_promo image="https://peposevision.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/health-insurance1.jpg" alt="Insurance accepted"]We accept most major insurance plans, plus medicare, and will help simplify your paperwork. [/x_promo]

If you are not fond of manually coding, use the legacy shortcode manager:

Hope this helps.
