Visual composer not loading, deleted

Hello,
just updated to the latest version of WP and Pro.
After updating, Visual Composer did not activate.
Deleted it manually BUT because of my server settings, I cannot install VC from Pro settings. Used to find the plugin in theme package and do it manually.
So I downloaded PRO again and searched for plugin zip… did not find.
Please advise how to proceed. The site is basically down for now.

Hi There,

Thanks for writing in! Do you have file permission issues which why you can install the extensions in X > Validation > Extensions? Please provide us access to your site so we can install the plugin for you instead.

To do this, you can create a secure note with the following info:
– Link to your site
– WordPress Admin username / password

To know how to create a secure note, please check this out: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/how-to-get-support/288

Thank you.

Hi @composerkaumann,

Thanks for providing the credentials.

Looks like really a permission error, and it won’t let me edit the file too through SFTP for troubleshooting. And even changing the permission isn’t allowed too. Maybe it’s due to file system ownership which is strictly implemented by your hosting provider. I recommend contacting your hosting provider to fix this permission.

Thanks!

Could you tell me which directories you need r/w permissions to be added. I can just temporarily assign 777 to them.
The system runs on Synology NAS and the file/folder permission anomalies are very common.

OK, I went to terminal and set all nested folder permissions in wp-content to 775 and all files 664.
Logged in with your credentials with sfp and were able to create folders, edit files etc.
Is wp-content enough or do I need to edit any other folders?

Hi @composerkaumann,

Looks like it’s still the same and I can’t pinpoint what other folders are needed for Wordpress installation to work properly. Maybe it’s temp folder permission issue since all downloaded files and plugins are temporarily stored there. Please check this https://cometcache.com/kb-article/how-do-i-define-a-wordpress-temp-directory/.

It’s a trial and error as I have no understanding of how your hosting’s permission works and I can’t promise any concrete solution. I would suggest contacting your hosting provider or a system admin that could help you set up the proper permission for Wordpress platform.

Thanks!
