The error in question is reported here (do a ctrl+f for “a is null”) and WPBakery will release an update soon, I would like to request that X theme be updated to include the new VC as soon as possible. I’m posting here since, right now, the latest available version through X is 5.4.3 when 5.4.4 has been available for about a week.

Thanks for letting us know. Usually there will be some compatibility checks with X theme & Cornerstone before we releasing such update, so there will be a slight delay some times.

By the way what is the agreed upon procedure for updating VC? I read another thread that said to delete the folder from FTP and reinstall from the X plugins menu. This worked for me but there’s a minute or two when the site’s frontend is broken from not having VC render its shortcodes.

That is correct. Even the automatic updates have the few seconds delay and in that case, your website frontend might fail.
I suggest that you do it in a low traffic time and also I strongly suggest that you move your website to a staging area and do the updates and all those changes there first. Then check and see if everything is ok then you can do the update to the live version.

Ok well thanks for clearing that up, I guess maintenance mode is the way to go.
I’m currently updating in a staging environment and running tests, can never be too careful
