Vimeo video not playing properly

Hi, my site https://www.nickosborne.net runs on latest version of X.

I have uploaded a video to vimeo and have it as a background layer at the top to autoplay and loop as a header. But there are several issues with this:

1. I can’t stop the little ‘play’ icon from appearing in the middle of the video, do you know how to remove that?

2. the autoplay works, but the loop isn’t working properly; it seems to blank for a while before looping

3. it doesn’t play on iOS.

Am I missing some settings or something in X that is causing this and can you help me please? Let me know if I need to share my login details to my site so you can have a look.

Hi Nick,

You need to add the video file url instead of the vimeo url. I believe it’s only availble in vimeo PRO

The url look something like this

https://vimeo.com/33349497.mp4

http://as.nyu.edu/content/nyu-as/as/communications/aem-faq/obtain-vimeo-mp4-link.html

I’ve deleted it and done it again and now it is all working perfectly on the computer; the play icon has disappeared and it autoplays and loops, so it seems that it does work ok with a vimeo url and not a url actually to the file?

The only issue left is that it doesn’t play on iOS- any reason you can see why that wouldn’t be working? Thanks, Nick

Hello Nick,

Please be advised that the background video needs a direct video file url like http://example.com/filename/mp4. Vimeo URL does not count because it does not give you a direct video file. Please also keep in mind that with background video, the video will autoplay and loops as a background. You cannot control the playing of the video. In iOS, the background videos will be automatically disabled.
