Videos Loading really slow

HI X Team,

So I have a site that has a welcome video:

To see what I’m talking about your going to need to log in (plz see secure note at bottom). It seems like all of the videos a loading really slowly and I’ve check a lot of other solutions before writing in. The video is compressed as much as I can go with out it looking like crap, and hosting peps over at dreamhost say everything is working fine on their end, and when asked about this they said that was the video elements were loading fast and easy for them, so may be its just me.

Here is a direct link to the movie if that helps:
https://www.truecarechiro.com/wp-content/uploads/video/truecare_welcome_movie_web_003.mp4

This is really weird cause I have other sites loading video with X and the same hosting and comparable file size on the movies and they are all loading smooth as glass.

Thanks for the help,

John

Ok so I check out the video by itself at the link above and it loaded fast and then ran smooth as silk. Just a FYI, so that narrows the troubleshooting effort down a bit.

Ok so here is more info, It seems that if I put the video alone by it’s self on it’s own page it loads and plays fast:

And when I’m in cornerstone its becoming very hard for me to save my work when I’m making changes on the homepage (the page where the welcome video is) so I think that the problem is something on the home page is bogging down the video load. I’ve removed all the plug-ins check it out and it was still running slow (since then I’ve turned them back on) so

I think something on the page is causing the video (and other elements) to bog down.

Ok so I’ve found out what might be causing the problem, there is a video background in the top section that loops when I removed that bogging down of the welcome video stopped.

But this is kind of a setback because I was really liking that video treatment, in the background. The background movie is only 2mb big so while its kind of big its not OMG big, This is the kind of stuff I used to see when there was a memory leak. And element (normally on a loop of some kind) eats and eats a little more mem every time untill everything pretty much locks up.

Open to thought on how to get this working. I would prefer to have both the video background and the welcome video auto play as a solution.

Thanks,

John

Ok so I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that its the video background that is slowing down the video player:

How do we work around this cause I know I’m not the first person to want to have a video element inside of a page with a looping video background.

Thanks for the support,

John

Hey John,

Your video is 25mb in file size. That is large for a background video. You need to trim and/or compress it to the smallest size that you can.

Lazy loading the video might help improve the performance of your homepage. See the following guide:
