Video won't play in header on mobile built with Pro header builder

I built a header based off of the sticky template with a video as the background. I like having the navbar on the bottom of the video, then having it stick to the top as it passes along. It looks great on all sizes, except the video doesn’t play on mobile at all. It just displays the poster image, and there doesn’t seem to be an option for autoplay anywhere.

It didn’t seem to accept YouTube links as a source either, only self-hosted video. Is this the case?

Here’s the website: blastcap.io

Hi There,

That is all correct. Background video have to be self hosted, not youtube,

Background videos wont play on touch devices on WP by default because of the cost of mobile data.

It might be something it will change in the future but for now you will have the poster image instead.

Hope it helps

Good day, has this been changed? Or will a poster image be always shown in mobile device?

Hi @pawinna,

Videos still display the poster image as fallback on mobile devices since having a video background is only good for deskstop screes. For smaller screens and devices, aside from being a bandwidth hogger and data costly, this will still not work either on tablets nor smartphones as there is no autostart(autoplay) on mobile and that videos don’t play inline on smartphones. They usually open in the mobile player.

Hope this explains it.

I’ve been down this road plenty of times before. Didn’t buy the whole mobile data excuse. I did find a workaround and that was using Slider Revolution. Worked like a charm for playing videos on mobile devices.

However, I’ve experienced some issues recently with the latest update. The latest update actually crashes every site that was built on this theme. Haven’t been able to look into why yet, but keeping the older version works fine.

Glad to hear you got it sorted, @brianabela.

I have added this to our feature request list so that it will be considered in future development.

Thank you.
