Video Starting When Page Opens

I’ve embedded a Vimeo video on one of my web pages. The video is near the bottom of the page. When I open the web page using Microsoft Edge, the video starts playing as soon as the page is opened. It shouldn’t start playing until the user clicks the play button.

If I open the web page with Firefox or Chrome, I don’t have this problem. How can I prevent it from automatically playing when opened with Microsoft Edge?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Seth,

As per the Autoplay Policy Change, you need to Muted the video, to start the video, automatically or wait for user interaction and play videos on demand unmuted. If that is not happening for the Edge browser please check the Browser version and update it if not already updated. I have checked the website listed in your Themeco Account but was not able to find the video at the end of the page as you described. I would suggest sharing the specific page URL for further investigation.

Thanks

The following is the URL:

I had not added the page to the menu so you would not have been able to find it.

I thought the problem was limited to Microsoft Edge, but I’m now having the same problem with Chrome. Before accessing the website, I clear the cache but still have the problem of the video starting automatically as soon as the page loads. I don’t have the problem with Firefox or Safari or on a tablet or smart phone.

Thanks,
Seth

Hi Seth,

I have checked the URL in Edge browser but didn’t find that the video starts automatically. I would suggest you check once by clearing type cache including the Style Cache from Cornerstone > Settings > System > Clear Style Cache and check in the incognito/private mode of the browser.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion. I’m glad to hear that it worked correctly for you.
Unfortunately, I’m still having the problem even if I also clear the browser cache.
When I access the page that has this video in cornerstone, the video plays automatically. Is that normal behavior? I will probably get other people to access the page to see I’m the only one that is having this problem.

Hello Seth,

Thanks for updating in! I have tested your site on my MS Edge and the video is not playing automatically. Have you resolved your issue already? Kindly check this video:

Please use private browsing mode in your MS Edge. If the video does not autoplay, then there might be a browser extension that is causing the issue.

Kindly let us know how it goes.
