Video in Modal window continues playing after modal is closed

Hello,

We run a YouTube video in a Modal window . When the modal is closed, the video keeps running and more importantly the audio keeps playing. How could we fix this problem and have the video/audio stop when the modal window is closed?

You can see the problem at https://www.fluentstream.com/ . The video is launched from the “play” icon in the hero banner. ( don’t forget to turn on the sound when the video starts playing )

Any help to fix this issue would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out.
The Modal element does not have the option for dynamic rendering as the Content Area Modal, and that is why it is unable to stop the video. Although the Content Area Modal is removed from the element list, the Dynamic Rendering feature is one unique case where the content area modal might still be more useful. You can use the Content Modal Area element, by enabling it from Cornerstone > Settings.

Please note that the point has been already added to our feature request list so it might be taken into account in the future.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I recently started with X-Theme so I am not familiar with the Content Area Modal but I will definitely follow your directions and try it. Thank you also for your note about the future request list. It is good to know!

Hello,

I confirm that the workaround you gave me works ( the video stops playing when the modal window is closed). Thank you.

I know you can not commit to a date for a fix in the Modal element (or even that there will be a fix) . We are just a bit concerned about using a deprecated element and would like to be able to better assess the “risk” we are taking. . Could you please clarify your support policy with regard to deprecated elements? Will they still be included (as deprecated) in the next major release?

Hello Lisianne,

The deprecated elements will still work with the latest theme. It will not create issues in your site. It will always be available in the future releases of the theme as well to make sure not to break anything especially with those pages using the the classic and deprecated elements.
