Hi is there a way to get a video to autoplay hosting on Vimeo? I was told to add &autoplay=1 this does not work… and if not is there another way to add this video so that it will show up on mobile??? I’ve tried using OGV and the video wont play?
Hi @macknak,
Thank you for writing in, please follow the guide provided on the following link:
How To Set A Vimeo Video To Autoplay.
You can use the Video element, for adding the Embed Code from Vimeo or YouTube.
Hope it helps,
Cheers!
Hi this super frustrating different answers it doesn’t work after following this can you have a look at my back end? HTML 5 video I’ve tried instead and they don’t play at all? I’d rather use Vimeo will this play on mobile any other way and autoplay!?
Thanks
Hi @macknak,
I’ve checked your website on both mobile & desktop. The autoplay of video on header is working fine:
Could you please double check again?
Thanks.
it doesn’t autoplay on my end there is a long delay before it starts I will clear all the cache and see …also would you know why HTML5 dosent work at all with either OGV , webm or mpeg ?
Hello @macknak,
There is a delay with the autoplay because it needs a few seconds to load the video in the buffer.
And please use *.mp4 format instead.
Hope this helps.
im not sure what you mean this is mp4?
Hello @macknak,
Thanks for updating the thread.
My colleague meant that you use the video that’s .mp4 format. To learn more, please take a look at following resource.
Thanks.
im using .mp4 hosted on Vimeo your solutions make absolutely no sense to this issue…
thanks
Hi @macknak,
I’ll explain further what are the differences
There are two ways to add a video, it’s either as actual video file URL or by embed code. The embed codes are the one from the video hosting site like Youtube and Vimeo. It should be added as HTML embed code and can’t be added as OGV, WebM, or MPEG.
The actual video file URL is then for OGV, WebM, or MPEG. And since you’re asking why your video from Vimeo isn’t working on OGV, WebM, or MPEG is because it needs an actual file URL. And we only suggested using a video file with Mp4 format so you could add it to MPEG option.
It’s either do not use Vimeo video and upload your own video to your site as mp4, or use Vimeo video but do not upload and use an mp4 video to your site.
Thanks!
Hi sorry no I understand the diff and how to add video im not using OGV, WebM Or MPEG on Vimeo im using MP4 on Vimeo however if I choose HTML5 on revolution slider the videos do not play you have three choices to use OGV, WebM or MPEG none work… I was going to try that option to see if it would autoplay… I want the video to play on mobile so I’ve chosen to host it on Vimeo however there is a buffering delay and it does not autoplay… if I use mp4 on the theme page settings it will autoplay but will not show up on the mobile or tablet version…
Thanks
Hi Mack,
Please ignore OGV, WebM, MPEG options, they aren’t meant for Vimeo video.
And the MP4 you have uploaded to Vimeo has no connection with this issue since you’re still using Vimeo URL/ID instead of the actual file URL of the MP4 you have uploaded.
An example URL that you can use within OGV, WebM, and MEP are these
http://techslides.com/demos/sample-videos/small.ogv,
http://techslides.com/demos/sample-videos/small.webm,
http://techslides.com/demos/sample-videos/small.mp4,
And they are not Vimeo URLs, and even if you uploaded your MP4 file to Vimeo, the URL isn’t the same, it will be https://vimeo.com/9011932, with an embed code of
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/9011932" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
<p><a href="https://vimeo.com/9011932">Pizza Time - Canon 7D - Canon 50mm 1.8</a> from <a href="https://vimeo.com/videosamples">Video Samples</a> on <a href="https://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
And these aren’t going to work on those 3 video options. What you need to use is this
Thanks!
im using slider revolution https://d.pr/free/i/5YSKbO
so above is the video element? with the video element will it show on mobile and how do would I set that up using the page settings? https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/video-hosted-on-vimeo-html5/56264/12
sorry maybe im just not understanding what your saying
Hi Mack,
No problem
The screenshot that I provided is for revolution slider. I only provided two possible options for Vimeo video, by adding its ID or embed code. Since embed code isn’t possible on that video layer, then your last option is adding it as Vimeo ID.
You just need to add the ID and not the whole Vimeo URL. Example, https://vimeo.com/9011932 then the ID is 9011932
, which result to
Video element may or may not work on mobile. It’s a mobile restriction to prevent data charges due to auto-playing videos. It’s true for all kind of videos
Thanks!
I think we might be going in circles lol this is what I have had all along my issue from the start was it isn’t autoplaying
328567992?background=1&autoplay=1
the ?background=1 is to turn off all other video elements sound play etc… your support first told me to add &autoplay=1 to have it autoplay this didn’t work… then someone else from support said its buffering use mp4 which i’am
I assume you may not have a resolution for this?
Thanks again
Hi Mack,
Yes, sorry about that confusion. Which is why I recommend switching back to Vimeo ID instead of HTML5 Video options. And it should be just 328567992
without ?background=1&autoplay=1
. Instead, you should add that parameter like this
May I know the other thread where this is discussed? Especially about those parameters. I didn’t pay attention to the parameter as I thought they are added to the correct place until I saw the screenshot
Again, it may not autoplay on mobile because it’s a device restriction.
Thanks!
thanks still won’t autoplay with those parameters
Hi Mac,
I tried a Vimeo video outside the the slider and video element, and added it as standard iframe with autoplay on its parameter and it’s not autoplaying on mobile. There is no issue with the slider and other plugins, it’s because mobile device doesn’t allow autoplay. I recommend contacting Vimeo for that issue, but regardless, they have no ability to change mobile restrictions if it’s really blocked.
Thanks!
thanks I just need it to autoplay on laptop or computer which it isn’t doing Im not worried about it autoplaying on mobile
Hi Mac,
It is auto-playing on my PC and laptop. What laptop or computer you’re testing it with? If it’s a hybrid (with touch) then it’s considered mobile too regardless of size.
Thanks!
