Video Background with Multiple Video Files

Hi,

I want to use a video background in a section, but it looks like (unlike the video element), only one video file can be used in the video source box. Is this the case? My video is in webm format, and it plays perfectly on Chrome-based browsers, but I need to use an mp4 format for Safari mobile browsers as it doesn’t play webm’s VP8 and VP9 codecs reliably. I tried using a comma between the video files, but it didn’t work.

Thanks

Hello Gunes,

Thanks for writing in! It is best to use the *.mp4 format as it is cross-browser compatible.

Cheers.

Thanks Ruenel, I know *.mp4 is cross-browser compatible format but as far as I see, except for iOS Safari, most common browsers play *.webp, which is about 4 times more compact than *.mp4.

When I encode with the “web optimized” setting on Handbrake, the file sizes of *.mp4 and *.webm become almost identical, so the issue is resolved. Thank you.

You are most welcome, Gunes.
