Hello

I have setup a video background at the following url however it will not load. I am using a surface pro and have successfully gotten the same video to work as a background in Weebly with ease when viewed from the same machine and many others across different browsers.

What can I do to get it working through x theme? I have created a private note with my login information so that you can have a look. Thanks

I would suggest doing this through the included ‘Slider Revolution’ plugin. You will be able to fully embed any video from Localy hosted, Vimeo and Youtube on to the page properly.

Not 100% sure who you have tried to implement this background video but it looks wrong :confused:

Hello thank you for this

With slider revolution will I be able to set the video as the background of the page? I don’t just want to embed the video but would like to set it as the looping background beind all of the other conent of the page. Are you aware of any documentation that shows how to do this?

Hi there,

That’s not possible. The video is locally available to where you embed it and not for the whole page as a background. You need a developer to implement it since it will be a complex one.

And as a side note, videos will not autoplay in surface pro or any touch based devices. So you should add a poster/cover image for your video as a replacement. You can only play videos by interacting with it (for touch devices) like tapping on it, and with a background, there is no way you could interact with it.

I do not understand how this could be possible, I have a weebly page that plays background video perfectly on my surface pro, I thought wordpress/ x theme were much more sophisticated than Weebly? Is this a limitation of the xtheme implementation of background video or is this an issue that effects all wordpress implementations?

What would a developer need to implement exactly, an instance of slider revolution embedded in the background of the page- OR an alternative approach to looping video in the page background built from scratch?

Our theme only uses the resources provided by Wordpress, especially the MediaElementJs library that’s responsible for video and audio.

Would you mind providing your Weebly URL that has this video background? Maybe I could forward that to our developer.

Awesome thank you so much, my weebly site is visible at http://www.motherculture.love/ - not sure what the difference is but it definitely works on all touch screen computers, just doesn’t play on mobile OS

Thanks for the reference. I’ll forward it to our development team though the reason we disable video background on a mobile device (including hybrid devices like touchscreens) is for performance and device constraint reasons. This has been discussed in the past and it is possible but up until now, there’s no safe and performant way to achieve this. It might cause more harm than good.

That makes sense for tablets and other mobile devices but I know there are a lot of very powerful hybrids out there that I have seen handle complex video backgrounds etc with no problem. I’ve tried my weebly site on a variety of hybrids and they have always performed great, equally as well as the maxed out mac book pro I used to use.

Thank you for understanding. We will let you know once we have an update on this one. This is how wordpress works and most plugins as you can see doesn’t support video backgrounds too on mobile for the same reason. Hello

Has there been any news on this ability to enable video backgrounds that would play back on a surface pro/surface book? I am able to view this on my machine with no problem and would love to be able to do this with xtheme/cornerstone and still have it work on my surface pro

Please let me know if you are aware of any workaround to implement a video background in cornerstone that works on a surface pro/surface book. These are not actual tablets they run desktop OS even though they have a touch screen and I have successfully viewed video backgrounds on weebly and other platforms on them such as the demo below

Hi there,

It works because the video is hosted on youtube, and it has a fallback player for touch devices. Plus, the video is within an iframe and just embedded in that site’s content.

Please try adding youtube video as your background. But still, not all browser can handle youtube/video mime type.

Though this is still on our list I just can’t tell when it will be available.
