Using The Grid To Open Documents in Media Library

Hi,

I am trying to use The Grid for something which should be really simple, yet I cannot get it to work!

In my media library I have a category called “Documents”. All PDFs, Word documents etc. are tagged with this category. I have created a grid which only calls media library items from the category “Documents”. All is fine with the layout and the correct number of “Documents” show in The Grid.

However, I cannot seem to open the document when clicking on the appropriate grid square. There is no hyperlink to the underlying document, which I wish to be opened in a new window.

Is there a special trick to deal with documents?

Hi Chris,

I’ve investigated this issue, you should know that you can control the grid buttons/links from the skin builder, however if you edited your skin you can see this link to “Post Page” as in this screenshot:

but this doesn’t work for media files, instead you need to assign a custom link for every “PDF” media file you have in the attachment page as following:

Thank you for the great description. That was the bit of information I was missing.

Given this is for a customer, I am going to have to go down a different route, as I think this method will be too much for them! I have installed the plugin Document Gallery, which sort of does a similar thing to the Grid layout. Its only downside is that its “Create Document Gallery” feature and shortcode do not work in Pro/Cornerstone editor, which means I am having to use the standard WordPress editor…!

Yes, in order for it to work in the preview, it needs integration just like other plugins. But, it should still work in the live page where the builder isn’t loaded.

Or, does your builder won’t load because of the shortcode? You can still edit it through skeleton mode in the builder. It’s the icon above the mobile icon where you’re inside the builder.
