Using Rev Slider as video background?

Hello,

Another post here regarding video backgrounds on touch screens. In a previous discussion on this, a user said they successfully used Rev Slider to get the video to show on touch screens.

If I set the slider as a ‘hero scene’ vs. standard slider, it seems to work. However, sometimes upon load it simply shows the poster image, but when it’s clicked, the video starts. Other times the video autoplays properly. The video is also pausing / unpausing when clicked, which I’d like to disable.

Posting this to help all the other folks having problems with video backgrounds on touch screens. It’s a step in the right direction, but still some kinks to work out.

Any advice on ensuring the video will autoplay all the time? Or how to disable the ability to pause it?

“HTML5 autoplay on mobile” is set to ON, I’ve gone through pretty much all the settings both within the slider and the video, not sure if I missed something though.

Thanks for writing in.

It’s still a known issue on hybrid devices(desktop/laptop with touch screens) which our developers are also checking for the theme, but RevSlider is developed by a different author so we can’t speak on their behalf.

All touch devices are treated as mobile even if it’s hybrid for the reason that there are no existing feature to detect the actual device. A laptop sized as the tablet with the detachable keyboard is almost the same as a tablet with attachable keyboard. If only browser will allow the detection of pointing device like mouse or touchpad, then it would be easy.

As of now, the result may vary. It may try to play it but it will display the poster image once it fails to load it (that’s for Revslider). But for the theme, videos will not autoplay for almost all touch devices and it’s much safer that way to make it consistent on all devices. Plus, it’s browser restrictions to prevent extra data charges since most touch devices are mobile.

Though, I’d like to hear too if there already existing solutions for this issue
