Upgrading to X 6.1.6 and Cornerstone 3.3.6 breaks Social Icons

Hello.

I recently upgraded both X Theme and Cornerstone and found that the Social Icons have been broken. As part of the upgrade process, both WordPress cache and browser cache were cleared. X Theme was upgraded from version 6.1.6 to 6.3.6, and Cornerstone was upgraded from version 3.1.6 to 3.3.6.

The only Social Icon that did not break is a custom social icon that was configured according to this thread:

I have reverted the website back to X 6.1.6 and Cornerstone 3.1.6 using a backup made immediately prior to the upgrade.

What do I need to do to fix this problem with Social Icons when upgrading X Theme and Cornerstone?

Thank you for the very detailed post information. This issue usually happen if you have modified social global icon by adding a custom code in your child theme. Please have it updated and make this code as you base code:

This code is the updated code. You will need to add your custom icons in it so that it will be displayed in the frontend.

Hello, I just realized that this has happened to our site as well.

I am uncertain how to update the child theme at this point. Someone else helped me years ago and made this happen.

Thank you for the information. Replacing the relevant sections of X-Child Functions.php with the code that you supplied does fix this problem.

Hi Gobaga,

Glad it resolves your issue. Just to give you some information related to recent updates, as of Font Awesome version 5 they split icons into multiple fonts. This can be fixed by changing instances of the data-x-icon attribute to one of the following:

data-x-icon-b for social icons.
data-x-icon-o for outline icons.
data-x-icon-s for solid icons.

The original attribute data-x-icon will still work for solid icons as a fallback but we’ve updated everything for consistency.
