Upgrading from X 6.2.5 to 9.1.4

We’ve moved all our sites to Pro which has been great however there is one client that runs their own server and for now we want to stay on X. I’m having issues upgrading though.

The environment

  • Running Wordpress 6.02
  • We are trying to go from X Theme Version: 6.2.5 to 9.1.4
  • Running Wordpress 6.02, Cornerstone 6.1.4, WPBakery Page Builder 6.9.0
  • I’ve definitely cleared the Cornerstone and other caches

The problem:
On X Theme 6.2.5 there’s x theme classes everywhere like x-container, x-column etc and it looks as it always has for years

On X Theme 9.1.4 (and really anything after 6.2.5 which is why they stopped updating) the containers are all broken and it looks like the custom x theme classes are all gone replaced with WP Bakery (Visual Composer) classes - vc_row etc

Would appreciate any assistance so much!

Hi @sequencedigital,

Thanks for reaching out.
I would suggest you please copy your live site to a staging server and update the X in your staging by following the below steps.

  1. Delete the existing Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be the latest version.

As you are using a much older version you may need to create a few pages from scratch as a few of the shortcodes and elements are already deprecated in the newer versions.
If everything goes fine in your staging please migrate the staging server to live.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

Hi @tristup, we upgraded everything following the recommended process before posting which has resulted in the issues described.

Is there a list of shortcodes that are no longer supported?

There are no mentions of depreciated shortcodes in the changelogs for X or Cornerstone.

Hi @sequencedigital,

Please make sure that the PHP version in your Hosting server is 7.4, if that is already set, please please copy your live site to a staging server for further investigation.

Note: There is no list of deprecated shortcodes available.

Thanks

Hi @tristup, confirming the server is on PHP 7.4.

What do you suggest for further investigation?

Why isn’t there a list of what Theme Co has depreciated?

Thanks

Hi @sequencedigital,

If you are still having the issue, I would suggest you please provide login credentials for your staging site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Thanks @tristup I’ll double check with the customer to confirm they are happy to proceed
