We have an old website that the client did not update frequently. It is on Version 4.3.3 of X.
We repurchased the template, but it is not letting us do the update. The link to activate the template are 404 errors on your site so we are in desperate need of how to get the template updated so we can clean it up from a hacking situation.
Think I figured it out as nobody had replied I thought I would at least try it.
I uploaded the new X template as “x2” into the wp/themes folder
I took the old “x” template, renamed it quickly to “x1”, and renamed the “x2” folder to “x”
Then I was able to login without an “API key” because the new stuff just needs the Themeforest license code
Once I did that, my site was busted
But I ran the Wordpress updates and updated the included plugins (rev slider, etc) and finally the site came back. Yay!
