Updating an old site running Pro 3.1.2!

Hi there, the title is pretty self explanatory. This is a site I did years ago and the client didn’t want a maintenance contract, therefore it’s still running the same version of Pro, 3.1.2. It is also running WordPress version 5.3.18

I am going to create a staging site of course, but wondered if there were any general tips I should follow for updating. Would it be better to update the WordPress version first, then Pro, then the plugins?

Appreciate any advice you can give.

Thanks, Shaun

Hello Shaun,

Thanks for writing to us.
I would suggest you copy your live site to a staging server and then update the Pro theme. Please ensure that you have updated all the plugins and WordPress core as well. In case you have not seen the theme update doc please have a look at it to learn more about how to update the Pro theme.

Please note that you must purge all the cache so that the latest code renders properly.

Thanks

Thanks - yes, I’m familiar with the update process and methods. I wanted to know if it would be advisable to update WordPress first, then Pro. But you seem to be suggesting I would be better to update Pro first, then WordPress. Can you confirm?

Hi Shaun,

The WordPress should be updated first, but before that, please check your PHP version and update it to at least 8.0 or above. Please remember that, as you are using a much older version, you may need to create a few pages from scratch.

Thanks
