Updated X and now can't use Cornerstone

So… I updated and now when I go to edit my site, Cornerstone looks nothing like what I’m used to. I just want to update my blog and there is no way to do it. I managed to find the Text element and dropped it into my post but when I paste my content into the little box, it doesn’t show up on the page. No way to “update” that I can see. Also where is the shortcode icon? I like to put an image with my post but since I can’t even see the post…

Update: I managed to get the text to be visible (not sure how - exited to my Dashboard and came back into Cornerstone and it appeared) but still can’t see a link to the shortcodes like there was before. I just added an image section on top of the Text section but obviously I can’t float the image to the left like I’m used to.

Yes, I see there are a bunch of videos to train me how to use the new X/Cornerstone but I don’t have time to watch them all (and what I did try to watch was completely confusing -where do I start? I don’t need the “how to install” since I’ve used it for 2 years but how to use without having to go through ALL the bells and whistles).

As a non-pro web person (just a regular blogger) should I dump X/Cornerstone and go with something simpler? The old version was pretty WISYWIG but this looks way confusing and impossible to navigate (it’s taken me 2+hours just to make a post and figure out how to see it).

Any ideas on specific videos I can see to get SIMPLE instructions on how to update the Text option, and add an image? I’ll start there and see what else I might need. But really, I’m thinking of just getting rid and going with something simpler. I don’t have $$ to hire a pro designer to do every little thing for me.

Thanks for any help on this!

Hey Jana,

Glad you’ve sorted out the text. It might have been just the cache.

The shortcode generator is now disabled by default because it will not work with the new elements and you can use it only outside of Cornerstone. It can be enabled in X > Cornerstone

If your looking to add an image inside a Text element, you can click on the Add Media icon.

If your post is simple or you don’t need complex layouts every-time you post a blog, you can simply switch to the default WordPress Visual editor. No need to switch to another theme or use Cornerstone.

Cornerstone has grown to have more options because of user request for a more powerful editor. If you have time, I recommend you play around with it because that is the best way to realize its potential.

Thanks.

Thanks for clarifying. I’ll try these options, and see about playing around with it.

You’re welcome, Jana.

I’m in the exact same boat! I didn’t upgrade to the Pro version because I was totally happy with X, and now I feel lost. I’m slowly trying to figure this all out, but building websites isn’t my business. Have you figured out how to make blog posts without Cornerstone again Jana? Is it all going smoothly? I need hope.

I enabled the old shortcodes thingee, even though it says it is not recommended. I’m adding in a plugin that will make social sharing possible.
