Update X from 4.6.4 to 10.1

Dear Team,
when I try to update X, via Appearance>Theme> New > Upload.

It doesn’t ask me to replace the old version it simply says:

Destination folder already exists. /home/sirenscawx/www/wp-content/themes/x/
Theme install failed.

Could you please assist witht this?

Thanks for reaching out.
As you are updating the X from a much older version, I would suggest you please copy your live site to a staging server and update the X in the staging.
And If everything goes fine in your staging then migrate the staging server to live and check if that resolves your problem or not.

I would still have the same update error on a staging server. Is there a different way to update from 4.6. to 10.1 ?

1.) On your server you can move the current “X” folder to “x-old” and then when you reupload the zip you should be able to successfully.

2.) In your x.zip file. Inside that zip change the folder from “x” to “x-10.1.10” or something that is not “x”. You do need to have the folder as “x” to have auto updates though. So I recommend #1.

Hi Charlie,

I have 5-6 websites that need updated from older X/Pro versions. Would your service “Advanced Support
Themeco One” include this service? Some of them go back to 4.6. others are more recent. Some websites might need their WP/PHP updated / tweaked. Thanks
