Update Woocommerce

Hi,

I’m having a total blonde moment. I need up to update Woocommerce to the latest supported version - 3.6.5.

I’ve downloaded this and when I go to upload it via the plugin page I’m getting the following error message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare WC() (previously declared in /www/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/woocommerce.php:38) in /www/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce-2/woocommerce.php on line 35

What is the process for updating Woocommerce when you aren’t updating to their most recent version (in this case 3.7)?

Thanks,
Ashley

Hello Ashley,

Thanks for writing in!

I checked the website and it’s asking for site credentials. Tried entering the login details you have shared but that’s not working. Please share site login details for us to take a look.

Looking at the error message it seems that you are trying to upload WooCommerce file using FTP by creating a new folder woocommerce-2. This will cause issues and installation will cause problems. Please do following:

  1. Please delete the woocommerce-2 folder and it’s files.
  2. From Plugins > Installed Plugins deactivate and delete WooCommerce plugin. Using FTP please make sure that WooCommerce folder is also deleted.
  3. After that using following URL please download the supported version of WooCommerce 3.6.5.
    https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/archive/3.6.5.zip
  4. From Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugins select the file and install WooCommerce. You can also take a look at following resource to learn more. https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/installing-uninstalling-woocommerce/

Let us know how it goes.

Hi,

The file was named WooCommerce-2 when I downloaded it. I was trying to upload via the Wordpress interface, not using FTP.

I’ve just logged in via FTP and there is no woocommerce_2. I’ve tried renaming the file woocommerce and uploading via the Wordpress interface and it gave me the following message:

"Destination folder already exists. /www/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/

Plugin installation failed."

If I delete woocommerce isn’t it going to delete all of my products and settings? I’m just trying to upgrade it to the most recent version that is compatible with PRO. What is the best practice way to upgrade woocommerce to the most recent compatible version (3.65)?

Thanks,
Ashley

Hello Ashley,

Thanks for updating the thread.

Deleting WooCommerce won’t delete your products and settings as they gets saved in database.

In my previous reply I have shared the process to update WooCommerce to latest supported version. Please follow the same:

Thanks.
