Unable to upload Theme

I’m using Wordpress 4.9.6. Just purchased X 6.1.5. When I try to upload X to the WP site, the upload looks like it is in process, but when it reaches 100%, I get an error message that “the link has expired”. Have tried 3 times.

Assuming the 50mg file size might be the problem, I used an ftp client to upload the X zipfile to the themes directory in the wp-content folder, thinking it would show up somewhere on the WP dashboard, but I can’t find it.

What should I try next?
Thank you.
David

Hi David,

Thank you for writing in, please contact your hosting support and request or ask on how to increase the following:

max_execution_time 180
memory_limit 512M
post_max_size 32M
upload_max_filesize 64M

What do you mean 50mg file size? theme zip files are only less than 5mb.

You can also upload the theme via FTP, but it will take more time than uploading it as a zip on the admin dashboard.

  • Unzip/extract x.zip on your computer.
  • Connect to your server via FTP and navigate to your wp-content/themes/ directory.
  • Drag and drop the x folder into your themes directory. (this will take time)
  • Visit the WordPress dashboard at least once to ensure any migration logic can run (this happens behind the scenes).

Do not do this if you have an intermittent connection, it might corrupt the x files on the uploading process.

Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!

Here is a screenshot of the 50mg theme file (at bottom) after uploading the zipfile using FTP. Not sure why the discrepancy between this 50mg size, and your comment about 5mg.

I’ll now follow your directions, first unzip it, then FTP the unzipped folder back.

Thanks.

After unzipping the theme, I found a folder called just “x” that is just under 5 mgs. Is that the only thing I need to upload to my site?

If I use my WP dashboard, the upload feature asks for a file, rather than a folder. What should I upload?
Thanks.
David

Hi David,

Now I see, you’re uploading the package (50mb file), please don’t.

Please extract that, and inside you’ll see a x.zip file (which is less than 5mb)

x.zip is the file that you need to upload on the Dashboard > Appearance > Themes

If that did not work, please provide us login credentials (wp-admin and FTP) and we will be happy to install X for you.

Cheers!

I uploaded the x.zip file and received this error:

Broken Themes
The following themes are installed but incomplete.

Name Description
x Stylesheet is missing.

Hi There,

That means your x.zip file or the files inside it are corrupted. Please download a new copy from ThemeForest, download the Installable Wordpress file only, not the All files and documentation

Please provide us login credentials (wp-admin and FTP) in a secure note, and we will be happy to install X for you.

Thanks,

Hello David,

I have logged in to your site and I uploaded the X theme and the X Child theme. You can now activate the X child theme to start using the theme. X Child is recommended especially if you intended to modify or add your custom features for your site. This is important to prevent all your modifications from getting overwritten when there is an X updates in the future.

Please check your site now.

Thank you for installing these. Do I start by activating the “parent” theme, then activate, and do all my work on, the child theme?
David

Hello @2communicate,

You don’t need to activate parent theme. Just activate Child theme and you can start making the changes.

Thanks.

Thank you! I"ll get to work!
David

You’re welcome, let us know how it goes.

Cheers!
