Unable to Update Page - Receive "Uh oh! Content failed to save" Message

Hi there -

We have a page on our website which we are unable to save any updates to. For example, if I visit the page using Cornerstone and make a simple change such as changing a word, what happens is Cornerstone attempt’s to save it. The green status bar moves to the right then after a few minutes we get the “Uh Oh Failed to save” message.

We searched the forum and found some solutions which included:

  1. Clearing the browser Cache
  2. Tried it in Chrome and Firefox
  3. Had our host increase the allocated memory. The memory was at 50MB, this was increase to 250MB
  4. We are running the current version of Cornerstone, Version 5.3.3 and we use the latest version Theme X

None of the above solved the problem

We update this page approximately once a month, so this is a new issue.

Here is the page that has the issue.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for reaching out.
It might be due to the improper up-gradation of the Cornerstone plugin. I would also suggest you follow the below steps while updating to the latest version of the Cornerstone.

  1. Delete the Cornerstone existing one
  2. After deletion please use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone.

If that does not resolve the issue, I would suggest you troubleshot a few common issues on this.

1.Plugin Conflict
2.Theme Update related issue
3.Child Theme Related issue
4.CSS/JS Customization

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If none of the above helps and you are still getting the issue, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Hi @tristup - Thanks for that information.

You mentioned,

“Delete the Cornerstone existing one
After deletion please use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone.”

Are you talking about uninstalling Cornerstone and then reinstalling it?

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,

Yes, uninstall and reinstall Cornerstone.

If the issue persists, please provide us login credentials on a “Secure Note” so we can take a closer look.

Thanks,

Hi @friech - I will send the secure note with details. Thanks

I failed to mentioned I tried the solution of deactivating , uninstalling and reinstalling Cornerstone. This did not solve the problem.

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,

I tested the issue on your staging area and it seems it was a plugin conflict because when I tried to deactivate all the plugins and try to change the text, it is saving without any issue. I suggest that you deactivate all the plugins and activate it one by one to find the culprit.

See the example test I made below.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Hi @marc_a - Thanks, we’ll go through the plugins to determine which one it is. Once we determine which one it is. Who do we go to for help? The plugin causing the issue or is there anything themeco can do?

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,

If the plugin is listed in our version compatibility we can help you troubleshoot it but if it not, you can reach out to the plugin developer and let us know the feedback.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Hi @marc_a -

We deactivate the ACF plugin. Then went to the citations page and was able to update it. We then reactivated the ACF plug and was still able to make an update on the citations page.

So, apparently it was the ACF plug? But we do have a question. Does it make sense that once the ACF plugin was reactivated, we were able to make the update as well?

One additional question is, does deactivating and reactivating the ACF plugin change any of the settings with ACF? I didnt think so, but thought I would ask.

Thanks
Tim

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,

Glad that you are able to find the exact reason behind your issue. Deactivating and reactivating the ACF will not affect the settings or data of the plugin.

Thanks
