Unable to save changes in recent X / Cornerstone updates

Hi there, we recently updated our site to the latest versions of X (8.0.11) and Cornerstone (5.0.11). Since then, when trying to update content through Cornerstone, we are receiving the “Uh Oh - Failed to Save!” message.

We have also noticed that there is a critical health issue “background updates are not working as expected,” indicating that automatic updates are disabled. Furthermore, we are unable to update or delete any plugin. We noticed that there is a newer Cornerstone update (5.1.0) as of Jan 25, but we are unable to update to that to see if it fixes the issue with Cornerstone. The option simply isn’t there.

Please advise on which steps we need to take to resolve these issues. Thanks.

Hi Angel,

Thanks for reaching out.
It might be due to the improper up-gradation of the Cornerstone plugin. I would also suggest you follow the below steps and update the Cornerstone once again.

  1. Delete the Cornerstone existing one
  2. After deletion please use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone.

If that does not resolve the issue, I would suggest you troubleshot a few common issues to find the reason behind them.

1.Plugin Conflict
2.Child Theme Related issue
3.CSS/JS Customization
4.Disabling Cache

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If none of the above help, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

Thank you so much for your response. We have been working to resolve the issue following your recommendations. Here are the steps we have taken and the results achieved:

  1. Deactivated cornerstone and reactivated through the link on the dashboard; did not resolve the issue (Cornerstone did not update to most recent version either upon reactivation, still at 5.0.11)
  2. Followed plugin conflict troubleshooting steps (disabled all plugins except cornerstone); did not resolve the issue
  3. Switched theme from child theme (X) to parent theme. This allowed us to update and delete plugins, so possible root of one issue here. All plugins with updates available were updated, and one deleted. A new version for Cornerstone available but no direct update option, therefore we enabled auto-updates (waited 32 minutes for the update to start).
  4. When the waiting time for Cornerstone update passed, it appears that the Cornerstone plugin did not update (still showing 5.0.11).
  5. Attempted to make changes in Cornerstone under parent theme and changes are still not saving; did not resolve the issue.
  6. All caches have been purged; did not resolve the issue.
  7. All previous site health problems still exist.

We gather from the troubleshooting we did today that there is some underlying issue with the X Theme that is blocking Cornerstone from updating to the most recent version. When X was inactivated, we were able to update and delete plugins as normal, and site health issues cleared. However, Cornerstone still did not resolve issues with updating content. When we activated X again, all issues returned (plugins no longer able to update/delete, health site issues, etc.).

Please see attached screenshot of our plugins screen indicating the current status of Cornerstone. This image was taken when the parent theme was active (child theme X deactivated)

We will reply with a separate secure note with our website credentials for further assistance on your end. Thank you.

Hi Angel,

Thanks for proving all your details. I am now able to save any changes to your website.

Since you have an old version of the X and Cornerstone. Here are the things I did:

1.) Uninstall and delete the cornerstone plugin (5.0.11), the purpose of doing it is to avoid any issue when updating the X theme.
2.) Update the X theme to the latest version (8.1.2)
3.) After updating the X theme, Installed the compatible cornerstone plugin with the latest version of X which is cornerstone 5.1.2.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Thank you very much, it appears all is working now and that all issues mentioned have all been resolved. Much appreciated.

You are most welcome. If you need anything else we can help you with, don’t hesitate to open another thread.

@ruenel
I have searched the forums and performed and checked all the suggestions but cornerstone will still not load for me. Can you please advise.

Hey @Ralanda14,

At this time we kindly ask that you open up your issue in a separate thread along with your login details. The longer threads get in the forum, they become more difficult to support as they tend to drift off topic and they also make it troublesome for users trying to search for solutions. Keeping threads relevant to their original inquiry ensures that we can keep better track of what has been resolved and that users can more effectively find answers to similar issues they might be experiencing.

Thank you for your kind understanding.
