Really looking forward to trying out the new builder when it comes in beta. I have so many use cases for it!
Thanks for all the great work you are doing
Any little tidbits you could share? Chomping at the bit to see some of the progress you guys are making.
Bump?
I think the August status report is the best place to look in terms of visuals, but we’ve had that out for a while now. https://theme.co/content/status-report-august-03-2020
Notice in particular we have the on/off toggles for entire controls. Regretfully the first beta won’t have the responsive styling controls, but it will have all the new workflow improvements and the layout builder.
So here’s a sneak peek Kory and I are particularly excited about. The Div element. I know, sounds a bit underwhelming…
It functions like a layout element (Columns, Cells, etc.) so it can have infinitely nestable children. For the controls, we’ve mapped in just about anything you can do with CSS. Here’s a brief example of some:
It’s really handy anytime you need one more wrapper to add some styling. It’s also possible to create your own complex combinations of divs and other elements to use as templates. It’s going to be really fun to see what people come up with using it.
PS: Just following up on some older threads as we get closer to the next beta. We’re about to start testing it all internally. Keep an eye out a bit later in the month.
Love it.
I was recently experimenting with Oxygen Builder (), and one of the things I liked was their div element – so I’m delighted to see this is coming.
Thanks! We’re trying to be more open about which elements support adding children. We want to add a Dropdown, Modal and Off Canvas element as well where you can drop children inside.
You could use a Grid inside a Dropdown potentially, resulting in some interesting looking mega menus that are deeply customizable.
Another thing we’ve done with this update is utilize something “prefab elements” internally. For example, we’ve made a bunch of elements for the Layout Builder like “The Title” which is really just a Headline element with Dynamic Content preconfigured to get the post title. That way you can quickly drag it in and have a title without having to set that up.
Combine these ideas and we could provide some new mega menu elements that can just be dropped into the Header builder.
Lots of exciting possibilities moving forward.
Oh hell yes to the children inside dropdown/ off canvas etc… that would be awesome!
Currently I do that via Global Blocks but it does get a little cumbersome
Oh wow, being able to place elements inside dropdowns, modals and off canvas elements is huge!
We’re really excited about getting it in. It’s been a culmination of different features getting added. The new layout pane helps manage nested content. Changes to the element API allow for more easily notating elements as “dropzones” and a few other little things behind the scenes have all been steps in that direction.
From a timeline perspective it might not be in Pro 5.0 (Layout Builder) but we’re planning for 5.1 to be a considerably smaller cycle that would also be released this year.
I’ll just drop this here for future reference. I am glad that Mega menus will be possible natively. To fully utilize them, an element similar to today’s Tabs would be great.
Tab element should be able to place the tab list on the side, and be able to switch tabs on hover. The Tab Content area should be flexbox powered with the ability to accept DIVs and other elements. That would solve the Tabs
look from Ubrermenu. (Ubermenu’s responsive solution for the tabs is great as well). All other Ubermenu designs seem to be solved with wat we already have, once elements start to accept child elements.
It would be also nice if the Off Canvas content area/navigation could pick up few Superfly’s tricks.
This is a really interesting idea. It’s almost like a combination of “Toggles” and “Toggleable Content” in more abstract words. It would really be nice to have full control over separating them. That opens up opportunities to have the navigation items in a completely different layout element. We’ll keep all this in mind.
