Uh oh! The preview HTML did not include a closing </html>; tag. It may fail to load or work properly

I have tried absolutely everything from every thread to get this working. We updated everything on September 17, 2019 and the site was working fine. Today, we are getting this error again and the editor in Cornerstone isn’t working. We’ve deactivated everything, updated .htaccess, verified PHP version, verified file sizes in PHP, etc. Any way to get this working again or is there a known bug that just came up today?

Hello Bradley,

Thanks for writing in! I have inspected your page and I can see that there is a fatal error on the page which broke the layout. This error may have been caused by a 3rd party plugin. You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

If nothing is helping, please provide us access to your site so that we can take a closer look at your settings.

Please let us know how it goes.

We’ve tried the 3rd party plugin thing. Let me know how to give you access.

Hi Bradley,

Thank you for the credentials, I did a few tests but sorry I was not able to track the issue, would you mind if we do a plugin conflict on your site? And please provide us FTP credentials as well so we can take a closer look.

And is there any chance you did a customization that has something to do with the footer? Can you try reinstalling your parent X theme?

Cheers!

There’s been no customization to the footer that I’m aware of. I will send you FTP credentials.

Hi Bradley,

It’s not customized, but something is editing your theme files, right now, based on the error, the file being edited is the wp-content/themes/x/footer.php. And a code from hitstat.com is added, I’m not sure if this is a malware, or the one your added, or added by your host.

Make sure to scroll down when you edit footer.php, because it adds many lines after the real code to hide itself.

Please remove that code, or contact your hosting provider about hitstat.com if it’s something they added.

Thanks!

Thank you! Will check it out. Appreciate the help!

That fixed it! Thank you!

You are most welcome.
