Ubermenu won't save changes

Hi, our Ubermenu won’t save any changes we make to it. If we add a page to the menu and click ‘Save Menu’ it looks like it’s saving, but then reloads the previous version. We had our PHP Max Input Vars set to 5000 and just tried increasing that to 6000, but still have no ability to save changes, even if we’re just trying to take off an old menu item. We have the current version of Pro and Ubermenu and have not added any plugins in the past several months and we were able to save menu item last week. (https://cityoflakewood.us) FYI we have 129 menu items right now and in the past have had up to 138.

Hi Brian,

This seems to be an issue with the server as you said you did not change anything. I tried to check the website but I get 503 errors.

Please kindly contact your hosting service provider and ask them for help. I also suggest that you increase the PHP Memory Limit (Different than the option you talked about).

Thank you.

Hi, so I went into the wp-config.php file and changed the limit to 512M. The menu loads much faster in Dashboard now but it’s still not saving. Is there anything else I could try?

Not sure why there would be a 503 error as the site is running fine.

Hi Brian,

I still see the 503 error when trying to access the website:

Would you please kindly contact your hosting service provider and ask them to help?

Thank you.

So my guess is that our firewall is blocking you. Can you let me know what IP address you’re coming from so I can send that to the Sharkgate folks?

Hi Brian,

It would be difficult to provide a specific IP since we (the staff) are located in different parts of the world and another support staff might be handling a ticket the next time.

I am getting the same issue when I try to access your site. it would be best to temporarily disable the firewall so that we’ll be able to check your site.

Thank you.

Hey Brian,

I’m sorry but we can’t provide our IPs because mostly, we’re using dynamic IPs. Our support team is also spread across the globe so it’s not feasible to take into account country based IPs. With this said, it’s best that you temporarily disable IP blocking.

Your site loads fine on my end though but I’m not sure how to investigate the issue just by checking the frontend of your site. We need WP Admin and FTP access also. Please add the login details in a Secure Note.

Can you try testing reducing your menu to like 80 items? I understand that you previously can save 100+ items but there could be changes in your server and UberMenu that caused the issue. If you can save with fewer menus, this means that you might need to increase the Max Input Vars to higher than 6000. You need to consult your web host about this.

Another cause of the issue is our theme’s menu custom fields. It could make the menu page slow because a lot of custom fields are loaded. Please temporarily try applying the solution provided here: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/x-menu-js-error/39960/15?u=christian.

There is also a menu improvement coming in the next update. I’d recommend you kindly wait for the next release and test if the issue persists.

Thanks.

Hi, I added a secure note with an administrator account for the Dashboard. I’ll add another for FTP access here shortly. As for reducing the menu, I made a duplicate menu and deleted over 20 menu items, then tried to save and while it said it was saving, it just reloaded the original menu.

Hi Brian,

Were you able to whitelist or disable the IP blocker? I tried to access your site again but it is still giving me the same access error message.

Since the previous suggestion didn’t work, it would be best to temporarily disable the IP blocker so that we will be able to check your setup.

Thank you.

Hi, so Christian above was able to get to the site before, so maybe he could try. I can’t disable the IP blocker as a whole as this is a city government website and we have to keep things locked based on the rules from our state.

Hey Brian

On my end, your menu could be edited except adding a menu item. I have added a period to your first menu label and deleted the last menu item. After deleting a menu, I was then able to add a new menu.

Looks like your server could take any more menus. I understand that you were able to save more menu before. But, there could be changes in your server that now limits the menu you can save.

If you can’t successfully save the menu on your end while I can, the problem could be on your computer. Try using a different computer connected to a different network.

The last thing you could try and this would prove that our theme is not involved in this menu saving issue is to copy your site to a different server. In this copy, switch to the parent theme and deactivate all plugins and test saving the menu. If the issue persists, the new server might not be able to take new menus also so you really need to reduce your menu if you wish to use WordPress’ Menu system. At this point, our theme nor UberMenu is not connected to the issue and we can’t do anything in this case.

If you can save the menu after that, try activating Pro first then test the menu again. If the issue comes back after switching to Pro, please give us WordPress Admin and FTP access to your staging site.

I just wanted to notify you of the 503 error as I got it at one point too. This means that your server is having an underlying problem which is probably not related to IP blocking. Please contact your web host about this.

Thanks.

Hi, so we set up a staging server and tested the menu with a different theme and had no issues in editing the menu. Weird how with the Twenty Twenty theme I had no issues at all editing and even adding additional links (I added in like 20 to test it out.

Then when we switched back to the Pro theme the edited menu was there and complete so I think we have a work around for the rare occasion we need to edit the upper menu.

Thanks for testing in staging, Brian.

If you wish for us to check your staging site since activating Pro caused the issue, feel free to give us Staging WordPress Admin and FTP access.

Thanks.
