Uber menu won't save settings

Without me changing anything, suddenly the ubermenu can’t be saved … I need to remove a submenu item, I do this, but then when I click Save Menu, it says "Waiting for … " for a long time in the status, bar (longer than it used to). and then it comes back with a server error connection timeout. the settings … My internet host has already set the timeout setting really high so it’s not that.

There were some plugins to update including UberMenu, so I updated all of them and still the same issue.

Can someone pls have a look in the backend for me … can usually work things out myself and not bother you but this one has me stumped.

Thank you so much.

Hey @kirk74,

I see you have a lot of items in your menu. Some host could not handle that. See this article for more details. Try contacting your host to increase your Max Input Vars to 3000 or more. I installed a PHP Info plugin in your site and the value is currently set to 1250. That might not be enough for the menu items that you have.

Here are some links to guide you about it.

If that does not help, please give us FTP access also.

Thanks.

great will do, thanks SO much for quick reply.

You’re welcome.

I just had a though tho, I wasn’t trying to ADD any, I was trying to remove … but you could be correct it could just be at maximum and therefore it is not letting anything else be processed at all…

I will try what you suggest thx so much…

Yes, please try that and you’re most welcome! Cheers!

sorry Hi again, that PHP Info plugin, I can;t see it, did you remove it again?

Just cos I don’t have access to my php.ini file without going though the host, but I have done some research and I think that I can instead create a user.ini file at the top level… and added max_input_vars = 4000 to it…

but I want to check if this change is being recognised or not?.. In my Dashboard I can see some PHP info but not this…

If you can pls tell em what the plugin was I can maybe install it again?

Thx.

Hi there,

There are many plugins that you could use with similar function, I use the Debug Info plugin. Please try that

Thanks!

actually I realised after I wrote this, that I DID have PP Server Info … and I can see that max_vars is still 1250 … which means that my user.ini is being ignored unfortunately…

Hi there,

I see, in that case, I recommend contacting your host. If it’s in shared hosting then they are the one that could only change some configuration.

Thanks!

Just an update to this in case anyone else experiences this annoying bug … we increased the max_vars and also the max_execution, and neither of these changes worked …

Also I found it wasn’t an UberMenu issue, because as a test I tried to make just a basic small menu and had the same issue … SO it seems to be a bug that since WPress did an auto-update, I can’t use WP Menus anymore… (the reason I think this is what it is that at the time this bug happened no plugins had been changed, added or updated)

It would be good to know why this happened, so X team if you have any ideas please share!! …

But crisis is over is over because as a workaround I tried to edit the menus through the X Customiser instead, and this worked perfectly, straight away.

So perhaps this is a bug with this version of WPress core (4.9.5) and it will be fixed in the next update???

Hey @kirk74,

Glad you’ve discovered a workaround. We are not sure if this is a bug with WP yet unless there would be many cases like you described. I’ve tested a lot of menus in my test site and this does not happen. Maybe this is only on specific environments.

Thanks.
