Translations without WPML

Hello everyone.
I have been reading about having a multilanguage site threads, but in most of them you refer to use WPML plugin, my client doesn´t want any translation plugin (he has it’s own translations) so I’m wondering if there is a way to just duplicate everything in root and copied to a folder. My site is in spanish and the folder will be in english.

The duplicating everything is not a problem, there are a couple of solutions. The issue here is how to change the Template menú? Is there any way to have in root one menu and in a subfolder another one?

Also in this line, what’s best a sub domain or a subfolder?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to go about having a multilingual website with the method that you mentioned. A Wordpress website has two main parts:

• Files
• Database

You addressed the files part but not to the database part. You can have to separate websites but it needs the duplication of the database. You can follow the method mentioned in the official documentation of WordPress to duplicate a website:

The problem of the method above is that you will have two WordPress installation and two WordPress dashboard to change stuff on.

If you want to have one WordPress installation you need to use the Wpml plugin. In Wpml plugin you can have the sub domain or sub folder method and it depends on your choice.

Hi @christopher.amirian , I’ve got it.

But my client still doesn’t want any plugin (and pay for it). So for this, I think I only have one option, I have is to create a subdomain and clone the entire site and translate the second one. Ex. https://en.mydomain.com

Here comes another question. Do I have to purchase another X license? The structure will be the same, just I have to translate everything.

I know, and also the client knows that any change he does, he has to make it in both “sites”.

Thanks for updating in!

Creating two separate sites for each language will work. You just have to log in to both sites and edit each of the respective languages. You do not have to purchase a separate license. Simply go to your APEX account (https://theme.co/apex/licenses) and assign the URL of both sites as the staging and production if you want both of theme is validated.
