Translation + essential grid

Hello,

I’m currently building this website www.dev.studio-ubik.com .

It’s a very basic website, consisting mainly of a few pages with grids built with essential grid . The site is currently in english and I would like to make it multilingual by adding a french version.

What would be the most efficient way of doing this ? I read this : https://theme.co/docs/theme-translations but that got me confused and it doesn’t seem to apply to essential grid. I looked at plugins but saw that WPML does not officially support Essential Grid. I saw other plugins, like Falang , but I’m not sure about essential grid compatibility either. And also buying a translation plugin seems unecessary since there isn’t much content on the website anyway.

I guess the best way could be to just duplicate my english grids and just translate their contents, which I’m willing to do because there isn’t that much content. But then how to I go about implementing a language selection in the menu ? Or perhaps there’s a better way of doing all this ? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Jerome,

I would suggest you use the WPML to translate. And as you thought to duplicate the English grids and changed the content to French and then use that grid to the French version of the page. I would suggest you go through the Translation document once before you start doing it.

Thanks

Hello Tristup,

Thank you for your answer. However it doesn’t really address what I want to do. It seems like a bad idea to purchase WPML when it doesn’t support essential grid and I have to duplicate all grids anyway. Isn’t there a way of implementing a language selection in the menu without having to purchase WPML ? In the translation document ( https://theme.co/docs/theme-translations ) there is no wordpress plugin used, but it doesn’t mention a language selection on the website …

Hello Jerome,

It seems that the Essential Grid does not support translation as well. It does not mention any translation in their documentation, You can check out their documentation here by the way:

Your only option is to create a separate grids for the different languages in your site.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hello Ruenel,

Sorry, it seems that I haven’t explained myself correctly : I do now understand that I have to duplicate every essential grid (even I guess probably every page?) of my website and translate them to french. My question is : how do I implement this in the menus ? Do I have to create a french version of the main menu ? How do I create a language selection option, so that visitors can select between english and french, without having to use WPML ? The translation document I wrote about earlier doesn’t mention the possibility of having a language selection …
Thanks for your help

Hello Jerome,

If you are translating the theme and site contents manually such as using the PoEdit software, you do not have the option to have a language selection. This is why there are WordPress language translation plugins so that you can easily manage the translation including your menus and having to easily have the language selection.

Best Regards.
