I have a valid License for X. Also since this has been in place my vc_ short codes are not working. this website was built in 2015 and I recently inherited it and all of its old short codes. Please help!

The X license is not related to the VC shortcode and issue you described. You might be using the older version of the Visual Composer plugin, which is known as the WP Bakery plugin nowadays. I would request you to please copy your live site to a staging server and update the respective plugin and let us know if that resolves the issue.
