Think with Google - SLOW rating

Testing mobile page speed through Think with Google, getting Slow rating. Any page load over 2.5 seconds is deemed slow. Our client tested the site we completed using Pro and were unhappy with the results. We pushed to optimize everything and got it down from 6.2 seconds to 5.7s.

For comparison, Theme.co comes in at 4.1, and demo.theme.co comes in a 6 seconds. Other major sites are coming in under the 2.5s mark.

The client used:
https://gweb-mobile-hub-test-my-site.appspot.com/feature/testmysite/

Is there something inherent in how Pro writes JS and CSS or builds pages that registers as “Slow” to Google? Is there anything that can be done to either improve the rating or explain to my client that they need not worry because Google isn’t reading things properly?

Unsure if this is related - we have sometimes received mobile usability warnings on sites and the screenshot shows the site ignoring CSS or just not displaying properly. Once it reads it in properly, it scores well.

Hi @disadmin,

Thanks for reaching out.

Perhaps there is a connection issue? That’s because theme.co loads at 2 seconds on my end, and demo.theme.co at 1 second. Of course, depending on the specific demo, the loading time may change. That’s also given that it has no optimization at all.

May I know the URL that we can check? Not the tools.

There are also many contributing factors, but mostly the cause is hosting blocking the crawler/bots used by the tools, and or the content the user added to their site.

Thanks!
