Theme upgrade from WP 4.2 to wp 5.x

Hello, I need to update the core of WP. I bought xtheme in September 2015. I would like to know if I can update everything without losing data and changes to my style sheets. THX

Thanks for reaching out.

That’s quite old, you would lose data and there will be compatibility issues. Doing that is equivalent to site’s re-design and maintenance. I recommend doing those in staging, it’s a copy of your live site. Then you can fix any issues on the staging without affecting your live site, once fixed, you can simply migrate the staging back to your live site.
