Theme options won't load redux

Per other posts on this topic, I’ve already tried deactivating all (non-essential) plugins. I left WooCommerce on, but tbh if WooCommerce breaks X I need to find a different theme solution.

I also stepped version of X down to 7.1.2 (stability release) in case that addressed the problem, which it did not. Feel free to shut off WP-rocket (caching/optimization) if you think that might help … but I’ve run this site for quite a while with WP-rocket running and X not misbehaving. So that’s happening.

Site in question is https://rockymountainpipedreams.com

… which is a client’s primary business/revenue site, so I’m putting it at the top of the queue even though the issue is showing up on my directly-licensed sites as well as other clients’ licensed.

I’m adding a private note with login credentials so you can access and hopefully address/resolve this issue asap. Thanks,

:Benjamin

Hello @BenjaminBarnett,

Thanks for writing in! Could you please update to the latest versions?
Our latest versions are:

  • X theme 7.2.3
  • Cornerstone 4.2.3
  • WordPress core 5.3.2

This latest release contains fixes for several issues so be sure to check out the changelog (http://theme.co/changelog/).

After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches (if you are using WP Rocket, WP SuperCache or W3 Total Cache) when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

If nothing has changed, this could be caused by a 3rd party plugin. You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Please let us know how it goes.

WELL. Turns out, it seems to be a Safari browser problem, not a whole world problem. As soon as I checked in a logged-in state in Chrome, the problem resolved itself.

On the other hand … maybe you want to delve into this and see why Safari fails to load the Theme Options management screen at this particular moment of WP version / typical PHP / X / Cornerstone version? Or at least pin a post at the top of the support forum listing system / browser requirements? I’m glad I can do what I need to, but I’m feeling the pain of smart people just like myself, who don’t try a different browser before they throw up their hands and go find a different theme to try instead.

Thanks for your input, and I hope I might help move the process along w/r/t resolving this Safari-related bug. Do you need me to leave your access to the rockymountainpipedreams.com site active for a bit, for R&D purposes?

Regards,
:Benjamin

Hello Benjamin,

Glad you found the root cause of the issue. There’s no know issue about safari and Theme options. Before we report this, please double check your extensions. If you have browser extension, please try to disable it first one by one. This is to make sure the issue is not related to it. Let us know how this goes.

I’ve confirmed that, with my current plugin set fully unloaded:

  • Theme Options will NOT load in Safari
  • Theme Options WILL load in Chrome

With my current plugin set fully loaded:

  • Theme Options will NOT load in Safari
  • Theme Options WILL load in Chrome

iow, plugins seem to have nothing to do with the performance problem I’m reporting. Hey, I’m Patient Zero! Lmk if you want me to leave your access open for troubleshooting purposes, or if I should nerf the user account I opened for you the other day.

Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for your report. I checked your website with Safari and I managed to access Theme Options with no problem. My Safari browser version is:

Version 13.1 (14609.1.20.111.8)

Please kindly check your Safari browser version and kindly get back to us to know which version you use and also I’d appreciate it if you can share a screenshot of the problem. I want to know what you experience exactly as none of our support staff could recreate the issue.

Finally, I suggest that you check the Theme Options with another machine with the Safari browser.

Thank you.

Ahh. I run an older (11.x) version of Safari, as my laptop is aging and 11.x is the newest version my OS will bear. Nbd, I’ll just use Chrome/FF for such editing tasks. Thanks again! :Benjamin

You are most welcome Benjamin!
