Theme font specifications not applying

Hi there, hoping you can help please! I have a pretty extensive site (117 pages). We recently completed a brand refresh and need to make some aesthetic changes to the site (fonts, colors, etc), and would like to do so without having to rebuild the whole site from scratch. We’ve cloned the site in our dev environment:

We’ve applied the new font specifics (mainly using the font Mulish for headlines rather than the old font Josefin Sans, which we’re maintaining for body copy) in the theme editor. However, when we add new text and/or headline elements, none of the headline specifics are applied. They always show up as a the same basic Josefin sans block, no matter which headline we specify.

Can you please help me identify what I might be missing so I don’t have to customize every single headline to the new font/size, etc.?

Thanks so much!

Hello Courtney,

Thanks for writing in!

You are having a font issue because you have used the headline incorrectly. In your headline element, you have inserted incorrect HTML content. For example, on the homepage, you have inserted <h2 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #ffffff;">Support that never sleeps</span></h2> in the headline element which should not be the case.

If you are using the headline element, you will only insert the “Support that never sleeps” text content and then use the headline element settings to set the HTML tags, alignment, and colors.

You will need to edit your pages and make sure that you are using the headline element correctly as I have pointed out in the screenshots above.

Best Regards.

Hi Ruenel,

Thanks so much for replying here. The incorrect headline element you’re referring to is an old issue from our past design, which we know we need to update. The issue I’m asking about is inserting new headline elements. I had thought that dropping a headline element in would automatically apply the settings in the theme (Mulish), but it’s applying Josefin - so we have to customize every single new headline element to be Mulish?

I am seeing, however, that the headline elements do successfully apply the theme specs if I use a text element instead of a headline element

Is the solution that we just use text boxes for headlines and ignore the headline element entirely, or am I doing something wrong in the theme that’s causing the headline element not to function properly?

Thanks so much!

Also - I noticed that the body copy is not correct either. We specified paragraph text to be josefin sans light in a navy color, but it’s automatically inserting regular/semibold black.

The button specifics we set in the theme are also not working. When we insert new buttons they drop in a preset default, not the settings we put in theme options.

Hello Courtney,

In Cornerstone > Theme Options >Typography, you may have set the following example fonts:

  • Body and Content: Body Copy -> which is set to “Josefin Sans” font
  • Headings: Headings -> which is set to “Mulish” font

Be advised that the Theme Options Typography will apply to the text and headline in your site that were not created in the Cornerstone Page Builder. Since you have created the page in Cornerstone Page Builder, you must set the font family in each of the text and headline element settings. Setting it to Inherit just like in the screenshot below, will only inherit the Body Copy or Josefin Sans font.

The headline element font family when set to “Inherit” will still display the “Josefin Sans” since the inherited property will be coming from the parent element which is the body. To get your issue resolved, you must edit the pages and make sure that the headline element’s font family will be set to “Mulish” or “Headings” if that is what your font name setup.

Kindly let us know how it goes.
