Theme corrupted

Hi,

My site is no longer appearing, I followed up with my hosting company and they have said that it is likely my theme is corrupted. X theme seems to have disappeared from my WP dashboard, I can go into appearance and see that the X child theme is active but there is no longer a place to get the theme details etc.

Any advice welcome,

Thanks,
Ariane

Hi Ariane,

Thank you for writing in, please provide us the site URL and login credentials in a secure note so we can take a closer look, If you dont mind please include FTP credentials as well.

Thanks,

Hey there, login details in a secure note. Tracking down details for FTP, thanks

Hi Ariane,

Thank you for the credentials, I’ve investigated the issue and saw a 500 Internal Server Error, commonly that error is a server-side error. I tried to install a default theme (Twentynineteen theme) and a health check plugin to test, but neither succeeded. Something is preventing it to be installed.

I activate your other theme the PridMag to see if that improves, but the issue remains. It could your Wordpress (4.9.8) itself is corrupted, would you mind updating the Wordpress to the latest version (5.2.1), this way you’ll update your Wordpress and make sure it has clean files.

Please provide FTP credentials for further investigation.

Thanks,

Hi there,

I will update the Wordpress version, my hosting company said that they have checked the logs and believe it has to do with a corrupted X theme.

“this is usually happens when one of the X theme files are corrupted. This error usually occurs when your updates or installation is interrupted or something has prevented to install your setup properly. So please try to reinstall the theme and let us know how it’s goes.”

I have the FTP details so I will share them with you now,

Thanks,
Ariane

Hi Ariane,

I went ahead and uploaded the latest version of the theme.
Your site can be viewed now.

I am also uploading cornerstone and still on the process.

Please check site after 30 min.

Thanks

Hi @paul.r

Thanks for that, looks like something went amiss - just shows script (see screenshot). Can you check it out?

Cheers,
Ariane

Hello Arianne,

I have fixed the theme and Cornerstone plugin already.

Please check your site again.

Hi @RueNel,

Thanks, contents seems mostly in there now which is good but it’s all messed up e.g. structure, font size etc. and for some reason, Wordpress doesn’t seem to be able to update - know why that might be?

I can go through and start making fixes but concerned it will just do it again, any idea of cause?

Thanks,
Ariane

Hi @RueNel

Looks like I can’t edit with cornerstone either, no caching plugin anymore so won’t be that, any ideas?

Cheers,
Ariane

Hello Ariane,

I have logged in again and I was able to resolved your issue. You seem to edit the wp-config.php file and added the site url and home url. I have changed it to:
(see the secure note)

One thing I noticed in your homepage is that most of the texts is using headline element and it is using H1 tag which has a bigger font.

In SEO, only one h1 should be present on the page. Please change the other headlines to h2, h3, p or div. Please also do not use <p> tag inside the headline element.

Hope this helps.

Hey @RueNel,

Cool yeah, hangover from the earlier version of cornerstone, thanks for all your help I’ll make updates now.

Cheers,
Ariane

You are most welcome!
