The Grid and Video Posts Display

Hi, I’m using The Grid and have made a handful of Video type posts.

However, when I pull them from The Grid, the video does not show up. I think the video is supposed to show up because it says it works with all post types… but it doesn’t, it’s missing completely.

Next, I tried editing each post, under The Grid settings, add the YouTube Video ID.

This almost works… except that the YouTube thumbnail images are missing. I need it to pull the thumbnail from the actual YouTube video.

Any thoughts as to why/what’s going on here, and how I can get this to work? I do have video posts enabled in my grid settings.

Here is a screenshot. The top one is a simple video post (the video portion is missing). The 2nd one is a video post with a YouTube ID also entered in the post settings under The Grid - Video. This is missing the YT thumbnail.

Hi There,

Youtube is within youtube embed, and its thumbnail is available within it. Hence, you can’t have the youtube thumbnail as your grid item’s thumbnail.

What you could do is do the screen shot of the video as use it as featured image/thumbnail.

Pulling youtube thumbnail is possible with some workaround, but the grid don’t do that.

Ok, got it! I now understand why it doesn’t use the YouTube thumbnail automatically. While it would have been nice to pull the thumbnail automatically, I did create thumbnails for each video and the display is very clean! It looks much better than simply pulling the thumbnail from YT anyways.
