Suggestion: Turn the "Under Construction" plugin to a private site plugin

With a few lines of css, I hid the “key” button that toggles the password form and moved the form to the middle of the page and made it visible all the time. That way I can password protect the entire website and make it private and let approved users login easily when they visit the site. This is very useful for sites that are used for weddings and wedding invitations as you don’t need to create user accounts but you want to hide the site from the public and only share the password with the people you want to invite.

My suggestion (what I can’t do myself) is to add an option to either show the login page only on certain pages, so you can password protect only a few pages not the entire site. Or choose certain pages that will bypass the password protection, like a front page for example, and when you click on any link to go to another page, you will be asked for the password then.

I’m sure that there lots of plugins out there that can do the same thing, but I really like the simplicity and the customization options of the “Under Construction” plugin and I would really like to use it as a private site plugin as well.

Hi there,

Wordpress actually has the password protect feature for pages that you can set under the Visibility option of a page.

You could set this option per page as well.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I know about that, of course. But this is a per page setting, not per site. So I have to enter the password on every password protected page, not once per site.

What I want is to password protect the whole site exactly like the “Under Construction” plugin does right now, but set specific pages that could be viewed without needing the password.

Like I said, there are other plugins that have that functionality, but none with the simplicity of your plugins. This is only a suggestion for you to create an extra plugin for X/Pro with minimal effort since you already have a plugin that does the same thing.

Hi,

Thanks for the clarification.

I will forward this as a feature requests. This way it can be taken into consideration for future development. All of these items are discussed with our team internally and prioritized based on the amount of interest a particular feature might receive. Thanks!
