There’s been a lot of discussion about the new v2 elements having “too many” controls, or being too complicated for the end-user (our clients) to be able to make sense of.
I have a suggestion which I think might be easy to implement and make sense. Here it goes:
First, we need to establish why someone is opening the element inspector in the first place. They are usually doing one of these:
- modifying or adding text/images/content
- modifying or adding styles such as padding, margin, borders, backgrounds, etc.
The problem is, the end user only needs to do #1, but when we as developers are building the site, we need access to a lot of #2
I feel like separating v1 element with v2 is not the best way to go about this. Instead I propose we separate the controls themselves so that getting to the content editor is super easy and getting to the advanced controls just requires a little click to reveal those options.
Here’s a visual example of what I’m talking about: https://cl.ly/1W3j2y1q1t40
