Hi davepar3,
According to the Facebook docs, images should follow a 1.91:1 aspect ratio. This should prevent the image from being cropped.
There are some additional details about optimizing images here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/best-practices#images
Please change your featured images with that ratio.
Thanks
Thanks Paul, I will give that a try.
Thanks
Hey Paul,
I found online that this ratio calculates to 1200 x 628 pixel size which I resized my image to but it’s still cropped once I share it to my FB page.
No big deal but please let me know if you think I am using the incorrect pixel sizing for the conversion from the 1.91:1 ratio. Thanks
Well I was able to get the 1200 x 628 to work on LinkedIn by uploading a separate picture when I do the share and it looks like facebook has a similar feature where I can change the picture that it shows on the share and use a different aspect ratio, I just cant figure out how to do it. Oh well. I’ll keep tinkering with it. Atleast I got LinkedIn to work properly.
Thanks
Hi @davepar3,
That’s not possible. Because both LinkedIn and Facebook are still using the same og:image meta tag to display the image.
For more information, please take a look at this:
Hope it helps
Thanks Mr. Thai -
I was able to get it figured out with the provided resources. Thanks
David
Well I can somewhat get it to work on facebook using a 1.91:1 ratio when I share (sometimes). However, when I share on LinkedIn using this ratio which is what they also require it crops the photo. It’s not a show stopper but just wish it would be a clean transitions. Thanks for the info.
Dave
Hi Dave,
Since the same image is shared then there should be no differences from the shared image unless LinkedIn processed it differently. And with that, it can’t be controlled by any coding or changes you make on your site. Though, maybe LinkedIn was also just displaying the cache information of your site including images. Could you try this too? https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-clear-linkedin-link-preview-cache-ananda-kannan-p
Thanks!
Rad - looks like the post inspector did the trick!
Thanks man!
David
Glad we could help,
Cheers!
