Social Share - Share Global Block

Hello -

Me again. On my home page, I have two elements to social share my entire webpage, but when you share from the main page, what feeds over to the share preview really doesn’t look that great. Kind of all over the place depending on what site is being shared to. Is there a way to make it so that when someone hits share from my main page that it shares a custom global block I create?

Thanks

Hello David,

Thank you for the details. Please be advised that the Social Share will get the information of the page where you have displayed the Social Share element. It will not get any information from your custom global block. It does not like that. Regretfully what you have in mind is not possible with Social Share element.

Regards.

Ok Rue - thank for the reply.

Glad we could help,

Cheers!

Hello -

You may have already answered but I just want to confirm. Is there a way to modify the information the social share pulls from the page it is sharing from? As of right now the information it is pulling from my home page does not look good and almost negates the sharing all together. I would much rather it share a small photo of my book picture or some different words I can put in there rather than what it’s pulling now.

Thanks

Hi David,

You can use the Yoast SEO for optimizing the OpenGraph.

Social media optimization with Yoast SEO

But to avoid conflict, you need to deactivate the OPEN GRAPH under Theme Options > Social.

Hope it helps,

Thanks Friech. I will give this a try.

But if I am only trying to change the way my home page is shared, but I am currently satisfied with the way my blogs appear when they are shared, will turning off open graph in X change my blog shares as well? Will I have to re-set all those up under the Yoast open graph?

Thanks

Hi @davepar3,

If you use the Seo Yoast plugin, you’re able to change just your home page only:

Hope it helps

Thank you Sir. I think I have about figured it out. Although I don’t see an option in Yoast to adjust for LinkedIn sharing. Do you know if that is available or if you can only adjust for facebook/twitter?

Thanks

Hi David,

Twitter uses fairly different tags to grab a title, description and image. Therefore there is a separate menu for Twitter in the Yoast SEO plugin. Other social networks (like LinkedIn and Google+) will often use the same Open Graph data that Facebook uses.

Thank you sir. I think I am all set. It looks like LinkedIn did indeed use the same open graph data that I put in for Facebook.

Have a nice day.

We are delighted to assist you with this.

Cheers!
