Dear,

I’ve installed X theme pro. It comes with a lot of additional plugins.

Which one would I have to use to create the effect like on the link above.
I.e. a number of columns, that expand on hovering them.

For navigation effect you can use Superfly Menu that can be installed from Pro > Validation > Extensions. However, mimicking landing page layout may require custom development. You can also search for plugins on WordPress.org or CodeCanyon.
