Slider Revolution - stopped working

Hi there

Slider Revolution has stopped working after the latest updates… and so the video below the masthead has stopped working. it was definitely working before. Is there anything I ought to try first?

It says that Slider Revolution isn’t activated - is it supposed to be automatically activated as I own an X Theme licence?

Thanks in advance for your help! Secure note to follow with website details.

Hi @ickleden,

There seems to be a Javascript error that is causing the issue. Can you please try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi @jade

Thanks very much for the response! I have 9 active plug-ins on the site. I disabled 7 of them (leaving just Cornerstone and Slider Revolution active), but it didn’t make any difference unfortunately.

Is there anything else I could try?

Hello @ickleden,

I checked again the Rev Slider admin panel or your site and things are not displaying correctly:

Perhaps some of the files were corrupted when you tried to do the update.

Can you please reinstall Rev Slider again? Firstly, please keep a fullbackup of your site. Then login through FTP and go to wp-content/plugins then delete the current revslider directory that is in there.

Once you’ve done that, please log back in to your admin panel and reinstall Rev Slider from the addons panel of your site.

Please let us know how it goes.

Hi @jade,

I’ve followed the instruction as above. Logging into Rev Slider now displays correctly - however, the slider isn’t functional on the site. (The preview from within Rev Slider works OK, and it appears to be linked in fine from the Home Page…)

Any suggestions for what to try next? Thanks in advance!

Hello @ickleden,

I have logged in to your site today. I can edit the 3 sliders. I have edited your homepage and I could not find any section that has a slider in it. Can you please provide us the URL where we can find the slider that is not working from your end?

Meanwhile, please clear your browser caches or use private browsing mode and test your site again.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @ruenel

Thanks for taking a look at this - the Slider has been ‘applied’ to the page titled ‘Home’, which is set to being the front page of the site.

I believe I’ve activated it by using the ‘Slider Settings: Above Masthead’ option, where I’ve selected ‘Revolution Slider: Welcome Slider’. Is this the correct way of adding a slider to the page?

Clearing caches hasn’t changed anything at this stage.

Hi @ickleden,

It seems your required scripts are loaded on the footer, so you need to do that with Slider Revolution as well. Please navigate to Slider Revolution > Global Settings and turn on Insert Scripts in Footer, more details on the following link:

Hope it helps,
Cheers!

Thank you @friech!

That’s fixed it. Just out of curiosity, is it normal for scripts to be loaded in the header instead of the footer? I’m sure it wasn’t like this before the updates, and I can see that the rest of the site loads up before slider revolution is activated. If I wanted the scripts to be loaded into the header, how would I go about it?

Hi @ickleden,

Glad that fix the issue.

Yes, actually that is the default, but major plugins (e.g. Revolution slider) have Insert Scripts in Footer option for site performance purposes.

I’m not entirely certain what was causing the slider issue or if that was really an issue with the slider or the slider was just getting affected. But it looks it has something to do with Render-Blocking JavaScript.

Thanks,
