Site is Down..."Technical Difficulties"

My site is down…again.

Whenever I do a theme, WP, or plugin update, I end up with downtime and a message stating “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.” Usually I let it go and eventually it resolves itself. This time I investigated in the apex support forums and followed directions to login via FTP and remove the .maintenance file. Oops. Big mistake. Now I am greeted with “The site is experiencing technical difficulties” when attempting to view my site and “The site is experiencing technical difficulties. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions” when attempting to view my WP dashboard. No email. Now I fear I am down for good.

I love this theme for so many reasons, but I am just overwhelmed by the constant downtime and errors that bring my whole site down. I’m a novice webmaster so most of the solutions provided here are just so confusing. So I need help figuring this out. My business is suffering. Thanks for anything you can do.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for reaching out.

Those messages are coming from Wordpress itself when it performs installation or update, the theme is just a set of files that Wordpress installs. We only provide the URL or file that it can download for installation, then Wordpress do all of it. The theme has no control with all of that process.

And it only means your Wordpress fails to properly install the theme with many possible reasons, like very low allowed CPU usage or memory limit, or maximum processing time is too low and all of them are imposed by your hosting provider. Resulting in failure when it installs bigger or medium packages like our theme or builder.

You can verify that by testing it on another host with larger resource allowance. I also recommend contacting your hosting provider about this issue to see if it’s something they could fix. Again, this is nothing to do with the theme’s coding or features, Wordpress just fails to finish the installation.

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. I contacted Dreamhost and they were able to resolve the problem.

Glad to hear that.
