Site broken after update to 8.0

Most of my site is broken after upgrading to 8.0. For example, four column layout has with ignores blank columns so everything is left aligned on the page. Most images have disappeared. Some pages, nothing but the header and footer appears.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for reaching out.

Would you mind letting us know if you also updated Cornerstone to the latest version? Also is there a URL where we could see this happening live on your site? Please let us know so that we can take a closer look and help identify what’s going on here.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Thanks Marc. I did update Cornerstone at the same time, and then got a fatal error on my site. Looked around and it appeared that my PHP needed updating also so I did that. That eventually fixed the fatal error and I could edit pages again. Noticed some missing images and alignment issues and started to fix them by replacing the images, etc. But then realized most pages were empty, such as this: https://www.newzealandawaits.com/accommodation/. Here is an example of missing images: https://www.newzealandawaits.com/cuisine/ Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @newzealandawaits,

Thanks for confirming that some issues were resolved by updating PHP. Would you mind adding login credentials in a secure note? This would help us get a better idea of why those pages are not loading correctly. Thanks!

Thanks, shared the login, let me know what you find.

Same issue. Updated Theme X, and PHP to 7.3, and WordPress to latest ver. Nothing worked.
Headers and footers appear on all pages, and homepage works. But other pages’ BODY is empty. Even tried rolling back page versions. I can’t find the fix.

Is there any way to revert back to earlier versions of X/Cornerstone? Having site down for multiple days is not a good situation.

@newzealandawaits, I’m taking a look at your site now and will let you know what I find out. I don’t expect it to be broken for days, but you can always download the previous version from your dashboard. If you can spare a few more hours we might be able to get it working today.

Update: Would you mind upgrading my account role to administrator? I just noticed I only have subscribed access. Thanks!

Alexander, thanks, if you think you can get it working today, that would be amazing. I upgraded your user account. Thanks so much.

Hi @newzealandawaits,

I’ve installed a development version that has some of the fixes for the next point release, but I’m not sure it’s getting us 100% of the way there. It looks like a whole bunch of your images are 404ing because the images are being referenced from http://www.clangcreations.com/nza2018/. It looks like you might have done a image replacement on all the site content, but it didn’t effect post meta. The Cornerstone builder data is stored there, and is copied into the post content when the page gets saved. This means if you replaced all your images with database search and replace, the next time you save in the builder it will overwrite with the old URL. Most search and replace tools account for this, so I’m not sure why your builder data wasn’t updated as well.

At this point I would advise rolling back to the previous version by doing this:

  • Delete X 8 and Cornerstone 5
  • Install X 7.2.3 (Can be found in your dashboard under the stability release button)
  • After activating X, use the link to automatically install Cornerstone.

Unfortunately it won’t be today that we have a full solution for everything.

ok thanks for the help.

Hi @newzealandawaits,

You are most welcome, please let us know how it works for you.

Thanks

I rolled back to 7.2.3 and at least the site looks right now. However, some of those pages are uneditable in Cornerstone. Just shows the footer, no content (even though the page displays when viewing site). Any ideas on why that is happening? Is it related to the image issue @alexander?

Hi @newzealandawaits,

It might be related. We pushed the Cornerstone 5.0.5 and X 8.0.5 updates today. Could you give those versions a try? There was an additional fix that helps with the builder preview not working.

I also made some adjustments that let the site continue outputting the original the_content if all the elements are classic elements. This is the most I can do in an attempt to get your images back and avoid this issue in the future. You’ll still have the problem where if you edit a page in the builder and save it will be the old image URL again.

OK will try, probably tomorrow, trying to push out some new products and need the site up and running. Thanks. I will update you when I try it.

Sounds good!
