Site breaks upon update from X 8.3.2 to 9.1.4

I have updated to php 7.4, have Cornerstone 6.1.4 installed, and am trying to upgrade from theme X version 8.3.2 to 9.1.4. I’ve turned off caching, turned off plugins, cleared and updated the Style Cache, exported and imported the XCS file, and the still breaks completely whenever trying to upgrade the theme.

I’ve been knocking my head against the wall to fix this for a couple weeks and have come up empty. Thanks for any support.

Hi Aric,

Thanks for reaching out.
The issue you are having might be due to the incompatibility between X and Cornerstone versions. I would suggest you follow the below steps while updating the X theme and the Cornerstone.

  1. Delete the Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be at the latest version

Please clear all type cache including the Style Cache from Cornerstone > Settings > System > Clear Style Cache and check in the incognito/private mode of the browser.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I tried those steps and it didn’t work. Here are screenshots of before and after.

Hi Aric,

I have checked your website and found that the X version is still in 8.3.2. I would suggest you please copy your live site to a staging server and update the X into it by following the steps explained in the previous post. If the issue still exists in the staging server, please provide login credentials for your staging site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Added a secure note with login details. Made a staging site, but can’t figure out how to duplicate the license since it’s only registered for one site.

Hey Aric,

The given credentials are not working, please double check and update them with the correct ones.

Cheers!

Odd. Sorry about that. Attaching the new credentials.

Hi Aric,

I have added the Staging site URL to the Staging box on your Themeco Account and validated the license. Please update the X to its latest version and let us know if the same issue persists after the update.

Thanks

Thank you. I have upgraded so you can see the broken theme.

Hi Aric,

I have investigated the pages and found that the content of that pages is missing. I have also checked your live server pages and found that are not developed using the Cornerstone builder as the pages do not contain the classes and the structures defined by the builder. It might be something different reason behind that is not able to copy the page content, while updating the theme. I would suggest you contact your Hosting Service provider on this.

If that does not help, I would suggest you copy the live server once again to the staging server and provide the FTP/CPanel details along with the WordPress admin credentials for further investigation.

Thanks

If you scroll down on the pages editor, you’ll see the content still exists in the Page Builder section:

Hi Aric,

Unfortunately, I didn’t find any content in the given page URL. I would request you follow the suggestion given in my last comment and let us know for further investigation.

Edit Page ‹ MNL_ Heal the Earth — WordPress

Thanks

It’s there. You need to scroll down to the page builder section.

Hello Aric,

The Page Builder that you are referring to is not part of the X theme. It is coming from the GoDaddy Pro Sites Worker plugin which will only work on your live site. This does not work on your staging site. Please contact GoDaddy support and ask them how you can make it work on your staging site.

Thank you for your understanding.

But here’s the thing. What is happening on staging is exactly what happens when we upgrade the X template on our live site. So what is causing this?

Hi Aric,

It might be a problem with the plugin named GoDaddy Pro Sites Worker, I would suggest you contact the Godaddy on this and let us know the feedback from them.

Thanks

I can contact them about the page content not coming up, but still. Why is the theme wrecked when updating X?

Hi Aric,

There might be something that is conflicting with the Page Builder plugin you are using. As we are not aware of the plugin and do not have control over the code, we can’t tell you the reason behind it.

Thanks
