Site background color breaks when choosing a "Template" color

In Theme Options > Layout & Design settings, I have chosen one of my “Template” colors as my site’s background color. I’ve saved multiple times, cleared cache, flushed permalinks, etc. etc. but the color is being incorrectly written to the CSS as:

background-color: global-color:4261636b67726f756e64

Obviously something is amiss :-/
