Sidebars Removed after Update from 6.4.6 to 6.5.6

Hi Themeco,

I am updating a site from X Theme 6.4.6 to 6.5.6 that is in WordPress Multsite. When I do this (by manually uploading the theme files), I lose the sidebar navigation on all pages that have it. The sidebars are made using a Wigitized Sidebar that has an accordion menu widget loaded into a custom sidebar that was created via Unlimited Sidebars. After the update to 6.5.6, I lose all of the custom Sidebars I had made in the X Theme via Unlimited Sidbars (https://theme.co/x/features/unlimited-sidebars/).

Here is my step by step:

  • Staging site has 6.4.6 installed, everything looks good on this page (production link shown that is working: https://denverscholarship.org/students/trio/)
  • Upload X theme 6.5.6 files to server as “x-update”.
  • Change x folder name to “x-previous”
  • Change x-update folder name to “x”
  • ERROR: This page no longer has a sidebar: [link to staging site removed]
Note that when the x-update folder name was changed, these other things changed in the WP Admin:
*** Appearance > Sidebars menu is no longer in WP Admin
*** Pages > TRIO Talent Search > Widgetized Sidebar does not give “Students” as an option any more.
*** Appearance > Widgets > Students is no longer listed as a sidebar

Can you please update me as to how I can update the theme and keep these sidebars?

Thank you,
Amanda

Hi Amanda,

Please also update Cornerstone to the latest version because currently, the X and Cornerstone version of the site are incompatible which is causing the issue.

You should be able to do so when you go to WP Admin > Plugins.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jade,

Cornerstone does not show it has an update. It is at version 3.5.4. Here is a screenshot of the Plugin in the WP Admin.

Is there another way to update?

Thanks,
Amanda

Hi Amanda,

You can navigate to Dashboard > Updates and hit the Check Again button, then check again the Cornerstone if it notifies an update (3.5.5).

You can also deactivate and delete your current Cornerstone (3.5.4), then navigate to Dashboard > X there is a notice there that requires you to install the Cornerstone, click that and it should install the compatible version of Cornerstone to your X.

Remember to clear all your caching features (plugin, server-side, CDN, and browser’s cache) after updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

Hope it helps,
Cheers!

Hi @friech,

Thanks for your detailed reply. Deleting and re-installing the Cornerstone Plugin did the trick.

Thank you,
Amanda

Glad to hear that.
