Sidebar Has Vanished From Blog Page

hi

Up until only a few days ago we had a sidebar on our blog page, but it seems to have vanished and I cannot work out why.

On our staging site, you can see the sidebar in this screenshot.

On our actual site, this has simply disappeared, though nothing has been touched at the site…and I do mean nothing. How can an entire widget simply vanish?

Here are the settings on the Layout & Design Tab

Any suggestions as to how an entire widget has simply vanished from the Widget section? Much of it now appears to have been moved to the Inactive Sidebar section, yet it was showing only a few days ago.

Do I simply drag those existing widgets back to the Main Sidebar area?

cheers

Hello @guybower1,

Thank you for the detailed post information. Regretfully I cannot check your site because Jetpack flagged my IP for a potential threat.

To resolve this, please go to Appearance > Sidebars and make sure that one of your sidebars is not overriding the Main Sidebar to be displayed in the blog index.

I’ve seen this case in your staging area. Newsletter sidebar were assigned to display in the blog index. Unfortunately, in Appearance > Widgets, the Newsletter widget area were empty which is why the blog index in your staging area is empty too.

Hi RueNel

Thanks again for your reply.

I actually don’t have Sidebars showing under the Appearance section in the main site, though I see it is there on the staging site. Why would that be?

Yes, I just unticked the Enable sidebar on blog index page in the 2 widgets which had it and the sidebar now shows on the staging site.

Above is a screen shot of the wordpress site page, though, and that Sidebar option is missing from the available options so not sure how to untick the same options.

Would a plugin conflict cause this to occur, or what else may be causing that menu item not to show?

The staging site is now using Pro, as am testing it before rolling it out on the site, but surely that won’t be the cause

cheers

Hello @guybower1,

The production site is using X and Cornerstone which is using an older version of Cornerston. Updating Cornerstone to version 4.0.4 should resolve the issue and will display the sidebars.

Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks so much RueNel

Yes, that update brought it all back

cheers

You’re welcome, @guybower1. Glad your sidebar is back now.
