Shouldn’t the theme auto-update? Or does one need to download from Themeforest and FTP again every time a new update is released?

I see on the validation section

Thanks for writing to us.

You can update the through your dashboard for that you need to go to Appearance —> Theme–>Check for update notification—>Update Now.

Please have a look at the given screenshot below.

In case if you want to update the theme through FTP you go to your Themeco dashboard and download the latest version of X theme by clicking on Download button.

In case if you haven’t seen the doc about how to update the theme please have a look at our documentation to learn more how to update the theme.

Please note you should always take a backup of your files and database before you update the theme. It would be best if you could copying your live website to your staging area. then you can update your theme there on your staging server.

Thanks; but I was hoping for an auto-update and not through FTP.
I don’t see the “Update Now” link.

Hello DeeJay,

We do not recommend auto-updating the theme. The Automatic Updates should display in your dashboard. still, you need to manually click the “Update” button for you to have an option to create a site backup first before updating. You can find all the updates in Dashboard > Updates. This is where you can see if there are any updates for the WordPress core files, themes, and the plugin.

Well, your response wasn’t much helpful but I could see the “Update Now” link in my Theme page after almost 5 days of wondering why wasn’t it appearing. Provided screenshot in my previous post where I could not see the update option.
I was referring the auto-updates where I don’t have to download and FTP every time a new update is released. I, of course, know that “I have to manually click” to update.
